Quest for 399, Pt. 2 – iPlay America

With a trip to Kings Island planned for mid-October, my aim is to make Orion my 400th credit. In order to do so, however, I needed to secure five credits before the trip. My plan was to do a quick tour through New Jersey and visit three never before visited beach parks. Knowing I could run into a ride closure along the way, however, I had three locations on stand by where I could make up a credit if needed. Did I have to use any  of those back ups? Did I meet my goal? Find out in my Quest for 399.

If you read Part 1 of the Quest for 399 series, you know that I began my day at Keansburg Amusement Park and was unable to ride either of their coaster credits. Starting the day minus two credits, I had to figure out which of my back up plan locations I was going to visit to make up for it and still reach my goal of 399. As I sat in my car outside Keansburg, I decided to just go in order from north to south. If I ran into any other closures along the way, I didn’t want to have to double back north again. The next closest spot was the only non-beach park on my list – iPlay America

Earlier this year I had plans to visit iPlay with Mailyn before attending one of Six Flags Great Adventure’s (SFGAdv) Coaster Power Hours events. Long story short, iPlay was not open on the day we planned to go, but our plans to visit SFGAdv fell through regardless.

Since iPlay is a 15-20 minute drive from Six Flags, my plan was always to bundle the two together on a future visit. Well, with Keansburg not working out, it was on the table for my Quest for 399. And thankfully so as it was quite the experience!

My Feelings on SBF Visa Spinners

Now, I’ve made it well known by this point that I am not the biggest fan of SBF Visa spinning coasters. They either don’t do much for me, or they end up spinning me silly and leave me feeling off for a few minutes afterward. Well, when I plotted out all the locations I could visit for new credits during this trip, five of the eight possibilities were SBF Visa coasters, with four of those being of the spinning variety. Now you can see why I was wanting Keansburg to work out so badly.

Freedom Rider

Walking into iPlay America I was in awe. It was much bigger inside than it looked from the outside. I spent some time filming the place in my vlog, which you will see within the week on the We Were Inverted YouTube channel. When it came to photos, the only ones I shot were of Freedom Rider. And wow… Just wow!

As you can see by the photo above, this is perhaps the most well-themed SBF Visa spinner out there. Everywhere you look on the walls and the floor you’ll find garage themed items. Every time I looked somewhere I kept spotting something new. Even things like balled up paper on a work bench made it looked like a real garage and not just a prop. I guess you can use the term, “lived in.”

When it came to the ride itself, I was alone in the front car and experienced some spinning, but it was certainly on the milder side. I was thankful for that because it gave me an opportunity to really take in my surroundings and admire more of the theming.

Here you can see that the theming for this ride fills the room.

A Coaster & So Much More

iPlay America is certainly worth a visit if you’re in the area. Inside you can find 4D theaters, virtual reality, a massive arcade, a sports bar/restaurant, and numerous rides. Several birthday parties were going on during my visit as well, so it’s perfect for kids. You can easily spend hours here with everything they offer. Sadly, I was unable to experience more than the coaster due to time restraints. I will be back though and hopefully I can take some of the other members of the flight crew with me.

On this visit, however, I was glad to get a brand new credit, putting me at 395. Now I only needed four more to reach 399. If the rest of the day went as planned, iPlay would be the only back up option I’d need to use. I’m certainly glad I did though!
