Six Flags Great Adventure – A Night of Nitro? Nope!

If only Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) had a moose out front. If only the gate coming off the road to enter the park had been closed. If only the parking gates wouldn’t have been blocked off. If only the security guard letting people park, to get out of their cars, get their coats on, and walk up to the entry gate would have stopped us. If only SFGAdv had posted to their Facebook account that the park had closed. Then maybe, just maybe I wouldn’t have been so irritated after driving 1 hour, 15 minutes from Storybook Land to find the park closed.

But nope. The park did none of these things and I wasted all that time, all that money on gas and tolls, and above all else, left an amazing time at Storybook Land. All that to just turn around and have to go home.

Getting that Bad Feeling

I knew that something was up when I pulled up to the parking toll and all the booths were empty. Since I was arriving at 7 p.m., however, I thought that maybe they weren’t worried about parking since the park was closing at 9 p.m. and it was a holiday event. Wishful thinking! I parked and saw a couple get out and walk right past the security guard who didn’t stop them or say anything to them. They walked all the way up to the gate too. I had a hunch that they were wasting their time.

A couple of rows in front of me, a family was outside their car and looked to be getting ready to enter the park, or get back in the car and go home. I walked up to them and asked if they were just arriving or leaving. They said they had just arrived. That’s when I asked them if the park was even open. Hearing that, they looked at me in shock. I pointed out that none of the rides were going and even on a slow night, having only eight cars in the lot is unheard of.

This is when we began to discuss how weird it was that security would let us enter the parking lot and do everything us and that other couple did without saying a word. He even drove around all of us a few times too. That’s when I decided to flag him down.

Bad Feeling Confirmed

When the security guard drove up to us, I asked him if the park was open. He replied that the park closed at 6 p.m. due to the weather. I said okay and walked away. SFGAdv closed right around the time I left Storybook Land. During my 75 minutes of drive, I turned my wipers on maybe three times and it was only to get the slight mist off the windshield. Needless to say, all of us were a little annoyed hearing him say that. Even more annoyed was the couple who just walked back from the park entrance, where they discovered the same news we just did.

Bad form, Six Flags… bad form! At least the security at Wally World told Clark the park was closed. Perhaps have your security do similar next time you close early? Just a thought. Thanks! Sadly, this meant that I wouldn’t be marathoning Nitro for the rest of the night, which was my plan all along. I guess I’ll have to ask Sam to go back and do it with me, huh?
